Theaters scalped in new 3D digital scanning and modelling technologies is at the heart of preservation, conservation and protection of ancient structures. It is using digital technology to preserve culture and heritage. This latest publication, written and prepared by the academic staff of the Dipartimento di Storia Disegno e Restauro dell’Architettura (DiSDRA) of La Sapienza Università di Roma, is a great addition to new technology scanning using 2D and 3D modelling with a special focus on the Merida theaters. The scanning of the Cherchell and Tipaeza Theaters in Algeria are being digitally fashioned to categorize the intertwining of heritage, culture and tourism. Siracusa activities in Sicily include 3D laser scanning part of the ATHENA work objectives to enhance and sustain ancient theaters. A full team from the Dipartimento di Storia dell’Architettura, Restauro e Conservazione dei Beni Architettonici e stato of the Sapienza Universita di Roma is performing the scanning that is part of an “ATHENA Week” aimed at improving the general knowledge, creating awareness and digital documentation of ancient theaters in the Euromed region.
