Hosted at the Botanical Garden in Padua, the PREFORMA Innovation Workshop brought together more than 100 attendees interested in digital preservation and cultural heritage to present the open source conformance checkers developed in the project and discuss about the business models that can be built around them. The presentations delivered at the workshop are now available to download on the PREFORMA website. Continue reading
The latest version of veraPDF is now available to download on the PREFORMA Open Source Portal. This release is the first of the PREFORMA testing phase and it is focused on bug fixing and improvements of the test infrastructure, conformance checker and policy checker and on the improvement of the user documentation. Testing and user feedback is key to improving the software. Please download and test the latest release. If you encounter problems, or wish to suggest improvements, please add them to the project’s GitHub issue tracker. Continue reading
EAGLE Mediawiki has been awarded as Best DH Tool or Suite of Tools at the Digital Humanities Awards 2016, an international prize yearly bestowed to Resources in Digital Humanities. EAGLE Mediawiki is designed to give a tool to anyone interested in making available the surviving inscriptions of the Greco-Roman world and contributing translations of inscriptions in several European languages, either by providing groups of translations or providing new ones. A year ago, University of Alabama professor Sarah Parcak won a $1 million TED Prize for her work in “space archaeology” — using satellite imagery beamed down from space to search for archaeological sites lost through time. Today, Parcak launches GlobalXplorer, a citizen science platform that encourages people around the world to identify and preserve our collective heritage. Continue reading
The third phase of the public PCP launched by PREFORMA started on 16 February 2017, with the virtual kick-off meeting of the testing phase. After an analysis of the results achieved and of the software released by the three suppliers that completed the prototyping phase in January 2017, the PREFORMA Evaluation Committee decided to award all the three consortia with a new contract. Building on the existing strong ties between our organisations, the Open Preservation Foundation (OPF) and BitCurator Consortium (BCC) are pleased to announce a discount trial membership opportunity that offers its members a 10% discount off annual membership fees. From 1 January 2017, members of the OPF will receive a 10% discount on membership fees when they join the BCC for a year long trial membership, and BCC members will receive a 10% discount when they join the OPF.
