DPFManager version 3.1 available to download

DPF Manager has been updated to version Version 3.1. This new version includes new features, improvements and bugfixes. One important change on this release is that we have created two new independent projects for the implementation checker and the policy checker with the aim of improving the project modularity. All the projects developed by Easy Innova can be explored in our Github repository, and also in the Maven repository.

New Features

  • Create and edit configuration files through the CLI
  • Create new configuration based on an existing one

Improvements

  • Improved performance for large batches of files
  • Moved relexation of standards from implementation checker to policy checker
  • Created separate repositories for Implementation Checker and Policy Checker
  • Updated TIFF-IT specification
  • Default configuration viewable
  • Smaller global reports

Fixes

  • Solved memmory leaks produced when analyzing large amount of files
  • Much more robustness against invalid TIFFs
  • Fixed periodical checker bug in MacOS
  • When an output folder is specified, check if it already exists and ask to overwrite
  • Show the correct reports folder in the log messages
  • Several fixes in METS report
  • Uninstaller now removes all the files (when asked to)

Many of these points have been suggested by the users. So don’t hesitate to use the issue tracker or any of the other channels available (twitter, forum) to contact us and provide any feedback on things that could be improved.

A new version of the DPF Manager has been released! There are several improvements in this update. The most significant one is the redesign of the reports section, where now it is easier (and much faster) to browse the analyzed reports, transforming between formats, and also converting a quick check to a full check. PREFORMA hands-on sessions in Europe
During May 2017, successful hands-on sessions and workshops have been organised by PREFORMA in several places to explain to the participants what does conformance checking mean, why is file format validation so important in long-term digital preservation, how to create their own policy profiles and how to download, install, configure and use the conformance checker to analyse their files.
Preservation courses at the IS&T conference Archiving 2017
Report of the course about formats for preservation organised by PREFORMA in Riga in the framework of the IS&T (Society for Imaging Science and Technology) conference Archiving 2017. The participants were introduced to an abstract and a generic overview of the meaning of "format" and digital preservation. Within that framework the value and importance of a Conformance Checker and what makes a format appropriate in a specific user case was explored.
DPF Manager v3.3 released and available to download
We present a new update of the DPF Manager. This new version can be downloaded as usual from the PREFORMA Open Source Portal. This new version includes several improvements and fixes. One of the most interesting new features is the Statistics Module. This new section reports the most usual tags found in the analyzed files, as well as their values. Also from the ISOs validated, it is shown the errors that have been found ordered by frequency.
