Angered Archaeologists allow thousands to enter the Louvre for free

On February 5, more than 100 archaeologists of the preventative archaeological public service occupied the Louvre museum and conducted a free admission operation for nearly five hours. The archaeologists chose this site because it is emblematic in the history of French preventative archaeology (the excavation of the Cour Napoléon, the Cour Carrée, and the Jardins du Carrousel from 1983 to 1990 that forged the development of this profession) to denounce the catastrophic situation into which their discipline has been plunged. MeLa final event: Envisioning 21st Century Museums

In adopting the concept of “migration” as paradigm of modernity, the MeLa project investigated the role of museums within the contemporary socio-cultural context, in order to identify new practises, tools and ways of representation and consumption able to foster an updated idea of museum, as space for dialogue and social cohesion in a transcultural Europe. This event was aimed at providing a critical overview on the main findings ensuing from the project’s investigations and a forward-looking discussion about the future of European museums. Kick-off of the Swedish Working Group

15 archivists met on 15th of December 2015 at the City Archives of Uppsala for the first preparatory meeting of the PREFORMA Working Group in Sweden. They participated actively, reporting issues in producing correct PDF/A files & offering test files. Continue reading
