Building on the existing strong ties between our organisations, the Open Preservation Foundation (OPF) and BitCurator Consortium (BCC) are pleased to announce a discount trial membership opportunity that offers its members a 10% discount off annual membership fees. From 1 January 2017, members of the OPF will receive a 10% discount on membership fees when they join the BCC for a year long trial membership, and BCC members will receive a 10% discount when they join the OPF. The veraPDF consortium announced the release of veraPDF 1.0, an open-source industry-supported PDF/A validator. Led by the Open Preservation Foundation and the PDF Association, veraPDF validates all parts and conformance levels of ISO 19005 (PDF/A). The software is available under a MPLv2+/GLPv3+ license. The software is available to download on the PREFORMA Open Source Portal. Please help us improve the software by downloading and testing it. Continue reading
DPF Manager has been updated to version Version 3.1. This new version includes new features, improvements and bugfixes. One important change on this release is that we have created two new independent projects for the implementation checker and the policy checker with the aim of improving the project modularity. The latest version of veraPDF, the industry-supported open source, file-format validator for all parts and conformance levels of PDF/A, is now available to download on the PREFORMA Open Source Portal. This is the final version before version 1.0, which is expected to be released on January 9th 2017 making it an effective release candidate. New features include the schematron based policy checker and a fully functional greenfield implementation. Please help us improve the software by downloading and testing it. Continue reading

The latest version of veraPDF includes the first beta release of our purpose-built PDF parser and validation model. It can be used alongside the PDFBox parser to compare the results. In addition, veraPDF 0.26 has a new batch processor that produces multi-item reports. veraPDF 1.0 will be released in December marking the end of the PREFORMA prototyping phase. DPFManager is the most advanced TIFF conformance checker for digital preservation that has been created and designed by a strong community of experts who are highly interested in file format validation for digital preservation. DPF Manager allows archivists to know the state of their TIFF images in terms of preservation. It validates the files with the main standards (Baseline 6, TIFF-EP, TIFF-IT), and additionally checks the conformance to the newest TIFF for Archival (TI/A) Recommendations (in process of ISO standardization).
