New Horizons for Cultural Heritage

“New Horizons for Cultural Heritage – Recalibrating relationships: bringing cultural heritage and people together in a changing Europe” is the Second Policy Seminar organised by the RICHES project to discuss how the project can provide insights to support evidence-based policymaking in Europe. The seminar comprised political updates by representatives from the European Parliament and the European Commission, the presentation of policy recommendations from the RICHES project and Round Table / World cafè style discussions aimed at providing ‘joined-up’ policy recommendations to be used in the definition of the H2020 work programme for 2018-2020. RICHES POLICY SEMINAR, Brussels, 19 October 2015

The policies presented by RICHES are related to the need to develop and use a common taxonomy, innovation in copyright frameworks and open access to data and information, and co-creation practices to facilitate innovation in the cultural heritage sector – all with the purpose of overcoming a range of barriers and constraints. The event was preceded in the morning by a Networking Session where invited participants in EC-funded projects discussed aims and achievements in the light of establishing new, profitable collaborations and synergies. RICHES for achieving impact through SSH

Unit B6 “Reflective Societies” of DG Research & Innovation of the European Commission (EC) is currently working with the project IMPACT-EV on a report aimed at evaluating the social, political and scientific impacts of SSH research from a SSH perspective, in order to illustrate the relevance and importance of SSH research in our societies. RICHES recently gave its contribution to the survey by delivering to the EC and the IMPACT-EV consortium a review of its scientific and research activities. Continue reading

European High Level Conference on “Education in the Digital Era”

The European High Level Conference on “Education in the Digital Era”, organised by the European Commission in close cooperation with the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union,took place on December 11th in Brussels. The event enabled interested stakeholders to discuss the opportunities and challenges of adapting education to a fast changing, digital society and economy, whilst shaping education’s place and priority in the EU’s sustainable growth agenda. Europe’s cultural treasures online: opportunities ahead

On 2 October 2014, the European Commission published two reports, coinciding with the international conference held in Rome, at the National Central Library, on occasion of the Italian Presidency of the EU. The conference aimed at urging cultural institutions in Europe to put more cultural heritage online, with the government support. The Commission will continue to monitor progress in this area through periodic reports and by chairing expert groups on digitisation and digital preservation and monitoring the correct transposition of the Orphan Works Directive.
