The report “Getting cultural heritage to work for Europe”, by the Expert Group on Cultural Heritage established under the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2014, provides the rationale for setting a renewed European Research & Innovation policy agenda on cultural heritage. It outlines the general framework about cultural heritage in Europe and the contribution it can make towards smarter, more inclusive and more sustainable development. The report further describes recommendable actions, drawing upon successful cases where cultural heritage has been a positive driver for sustainable development. Continue reading

The European Commission, Directorate General for Research and Innovation, unit B6 Reflective Societies, in cooperation with the FLASH-IT project kindly organises the workshop “Bridge over troubled waters? The link between European historical heritage and the future of European integration” being held in Rome, on the 17th of October 2014. The workshop revolves around the problematic of the interconnectedness of the past, present and the future in the current European societies and brings together specialists of history, cultural heritage and identity studies as well as policy makers and managers from the European Commission and national funding bodies. EUDAT’s 3rd User Forum focuses on close collaboration with communities, organisations and initiatives and how they are integrating and exploiting the current set of EUDAT research data services. The User Forum will also be a platform to look at Horizon 2020 opportunities, in terms of outlining EUDAT’s plans for research data management planning support for projects, how collaboration with existing and new users will evolve as well as interacting with attendees on their expectations and requirements for services and support from EUDAT under Horizon2020. The 5th International Euro-Mediterranean Conference (EuroMed 2014), devoted to Cultural Heritage (CH), is being held on the 3rd-8th of November at the entrance of the ancient Amathus city, by Limassol, in Cyprus island. In particular, this year the conference will focus on interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary research on tangible and intangible CH, on the use of cutting-edge technologies for protection, restoration, preservation, massive digitization, documentation and presentation of the CH content. The event was divided in two sessions; the first one was dedicated to the policy, highlighting the decisions by Italian Government and Parliament related to the central role of culture for the economic recovery in Italy, and also in Europe. The second session was dedicated to the digital content Aggregators and to the research infrastructures in the sector of SSH (Social Science and Humanities) and cultural heritage, to share objectives and to develop a common, operative roadmap for digitization.
