Results of the PREFORMA Innovation Workshop

Hosted at the Botanical Garden in Padua, the PREFORMA Innovation Workshop brought together more than 100 attendees interested in digital preservation and cultural heritage to present the open source conformance checkers developed in the project and discuss about the business models that can be built around them. veraPDF 1.2 released

The latest version of veraPDF is now available to download on the PREFORMA Open Source Portal. This release is the first of the PREFORMA testing phase and it is focused on bug fixing and improvements of the test infrastructure, conformance checker and policy checker and on the improvement of the user documentation. Testing and user feedback is key to improving the software. Please download and test the latest release. If you encounter problems, or wish to suggest improvements, please add them to the project’s GitHub issue tracker. Continue reading


PREFORMA Starts Testing Phase

The third phase of the public PCP launched by PREFORMA started on 16 February 2017, with the virtual kick-off meeting of the testing phase. After an analysis of the results achieved and of the software released by the three suppliers that completed the prototyping phase in January 2017, the PREFORMA Evaluation Committee decided to award all the three consortia with a new contract. DPFManager version 3.1 available to download

DPF Manager has been updated to version Version 3.1. This new version includes new features, improvements and bugfixes. One important change on this release is that we have created two new independent projects for the implementation checker and the policy checker with the aim of improving the project modularity. Memory Institutions in Control: Help Shape Future Standards!

The PREFORMA project works on one of the main challenges memory institutions are facing nowadays: the long-term preservation of digital data. This issue is also important for LIBER’s community. They’re therefore collaborating with PREFORMA to encourage memory institutions to answer a PREFORMA survey on this topic. Image and Research Conference 2016 report

In the third week of November (from 16th to 18th) it was held a new edition of the Image and Research Conference, organized by the Centre for Image Research and Diffusion (CRDI) of the Girona City Council with the collaboration of the Association of Archivists of Catalonia. Around 200 people attended representing fifteen different countries and the PREFORMA project was presented by Magnus Geber, Antonella Fresa, Sònia Oliveras i Artau, Peter Pharow and Miquel Montaner. Results of the PREFORMA Experience Workshop

Presentations and photos of the PREFORMA Experience Workshop are now available online. Hosted at the Kulturforum in Berlin, the event featured keynote presentations by international experts in digital preservation, use cases and experiments of conformance checking at memory institutions and live demonstrations of the software developed by the three suppliers working in the project. During late July 2016, Dave Rice and Ashley Blewer delivered two workshops at Tate Britain in London on the use of Mediainfo, MediaConch and FFmpeg in the preservation of digital video.
