On February 5, more than 100 archaeologists of the preventative archaeological public service occupied the Louvre museum and conducted a free admission operation for nearly five hours. The archaeologists chose this site because it is emblematic in the history of French preventative archaeology (the excavation of the Cour Napoléon, the Cour Carrée, and the Jardins du Carrousel from 1983 to 1990 that forged the development of this profession) to denounce the catastrophic situation into which their discipline has been plunged. To celebrate its 20th Edition Museum Expressions, the gift and cultural marking trade show, launched Museum Connections, an innovative conference programme focusing on innovation in Museums which gathered key museum and cultural heritage actors from around the world. The first international conference of the RICHES project concluded with success. The event, organised by partner Promoter in the aristocratic venue of Palazzo Lanfranchi, was attended by over 150 people.

Pisa was chosen as seat for the International Conference “Cultural Heritage: Recalibrating Relationships”. On occasion of the Italian presidency of the Council of the European Union, the international consortium RICHES chose Pisa as seat for its important conference, held at the Museum of Graphics of Palazzo Lanfranchi on 4-5 December 2014. The event was organised by RICHES Italian partner Promoter Srl with the support of: Italian Ministry of Economic Development, Tuscany Region, Municipality of Pisa, University of Pisa and Fondazione Sistema Toscana (“Tuscany System Foundation”). This workshop, co-organised by the Foundation i2CAT, the Government of Catalonia and the Theatre Institute of Barcelona,examined the gradual adoption of technological environments in the performing arts and how the expanding of bandwidth have given rise to new forms of creative expression, space for experimentation and new business models for performing arts, reaching other spaces such as movie screens and cultural institutions with the distribution of high-definition content. Sarah Whatley, dance professor and director of the Centre for Dance Research (C-Dare) at Coventry University intervened as speaker in representation of the European project RICHES. Continue reading
